Start as we mean to go on...

I have been wanting to start blogging for at least two years. Last night whilst watching Julie & Julia, it struck a chord that, like her, I have lots of things I really want to do but I never seem to find or make the time to do them.

Call it my age, not enough years between me and the big 4-0, anything under ten years being scary, we are now just past the under five mark. Maybe it is because we are at the start of a New Year? Whatever the reason, last night I decided to make 2013 the year I 'do' all the things I have been putting off.

I have taken the first step! Here I am finally typing my first post on my dormant blogger page. This in itself amazes me. I am one of those people who loves the idea of keeping a diary, I have since I was 12, however I have yet to complete one past February!

So now to the things I intend to actually 'do' in 2013 :-

1. Write.
My one constant passion from childhood to adulthood has been literature. I love books so much that I have staunchly refused for years to even consider reading them electronically ( I have since succumbed but need to alternate with real ones).
The older I became the more I wanted to tell my own stories. This blog is the closest I have come. I have read numerous books on 'how to write', attended some great events (the Red Network one being my favourite), joined online writing courses, yet never actually written a thing! I insist on keeping the beautiful notebook from the Red Event beside my bed to try to shame me each morning and evening into opening it up and putting pen to paper....I just know not to look at it now!

2. Sew
Having seen the work of so many talented people since I opened SOEL, it niggles at me constantly that I have no creative skills. I took the academic route from very young and never had the confidence or belief that I was capable of anything artistic or creative. I have subscriptions to numerous magazines that encourage people to get sewing, creating and making and yet, yes, you guessed it, I have never actually DONE!

3. Allotment
My lovely allotment has seen much neglect over the last two years due to my foray into Indie Retail. I intend to change this and finally do it properly, rather than throw seeds at it and cross my fingers (and yes, I have a book to help).

4. Diet
Not much to say here other than it's now or never to shift *whispers* four stone! The healthy eating (Dukan Diet) started after the stroke of midnight. Rather than wishing me Happy New Year the husband ripped my glass of Sauvignon out of my hand, as it was technically the first of January. I wish I'd known he was going to be so literal, as I would have been toasting the New Year with the bottle instead!

5. SOEL
My lovely business limped into it's third and make or break year. Unless I can somehow get the e-commerce site onto people's shopping radar, it will become one of those hideous startup failure statistics. This would devastate me but with limited resources, I am preparing myself. I have seen so many fantastic businesses, who are trying to promote ethical and organic fashion, fall by the wayside, that it breaks my heart. I endeavour to somehow become a web/SEO guru on no budget! (Yes lots of 'how to' books may be involved!)

This blog will document my attempts at the above, with a few pictures, recipes and reviews thrown in.
